Opening your gift box - healing with energy

If I were to give you a beautifully wrapped box and inside were the instructions and keys to opening all your spiritual gifts? Would you take it, open it with enthusiasm?

Out of the spiritual awareness and awakening that has increased across the globe, some phenomenal teachers, guides and messengers have emerged. And we have easy access to much of their work through books and the internet. We no longer need to join a secret group or commit to a lifelong apprenticeship with a guru. Happily, we have so much choice, and we can pick and choose, and herein lies the challenge - there are so many people and modalities offering courses on opening your spiritual gifts or learning how to be a healer, channeler or light worker. Most of them have special rules, techniques, rituals and instructions for you to follow which will surely lead to your awakening. Who is right? Which technique works best? How do you choose? There really are many amazing teachers out there and I am definitely a lover of learning! I’ve almost been like a cricket jumping from one to another, sure that each will hold the magic sauce. When I began studying energy medicine, I was so incredibly excited to learn this new world, and more than that, I yearned with so much passion to ‘open my spiritual gifts’! I would listen and watch teachers and other well-known people using their gifts – channeling or speaking of their experience and I’d be in awe – wow, imagine being that connected! Imagine being able to see or hear that…

After a while of learning, practicing, trying and following guidance, a huge feeling of frustration and doubt crept in – I got nothing – zip, nada, zilch – nothing. I didn’t see anything other than the norm. There were no great voices in my head, I didn’t see auras around people. Yes, I could feel if someone or someplace gave off an uncomfortable energy, but I couldn’t tell you a story about it, and the mystical ‘mind’s eye’ or ‘inner eye’ – well, all I got was my imagination... The more I tried to learn from others, the more I doubted my own abilities. My experience simply didn’t match. It wasn’t until I gathered all that I had learnt - inspirations, insights and wisdoms - put them aside and let go of them, that I began to make progress. Surrender and trust! Acknowledge and appreciate all you have learnt and collected, use it as a series of guideposts, but then trust yourself enough to let go and do it your own way. Observe how it is for you, make your own rituals, listen deeply within, and most importantly, trust yourself. Confidence will come with the experiences you have and the confirmations you receive, but you first have to take that leap of faith.

Once I started doing that, I was amazed at what I discovered. The voice that has been with me all my life, and sounds just like me, has been there to guide and inform me all the time. The images from my ‘imagination’ were actually representations on a soul level and the understanding that came with them, a knowing. But in order to be aware of these gifts and open them, took trust. Once you then begin to use them, the more they open. It gets easier to distinguish them and understand them, building confidence and momentum as you go. Even now, each time I do a session I have to take a leap of faith – usually I will receive an abstract image that seems silly and irrelevant, almost dismissible or laughable – but if I have the courage to speak it, to acknowledge it, to trust it, then as soon as I take the step and grasp it, then the understanding and insight comes. It’s like a test of trust each time.

Every person has these gifts. Everyone is spiritually gifted. We all have our intuitive voices, we are all connected and yet, we are all so unique. So, by all means embrace the learning from others, admire their abilities, use them as sparks of inspiration and encouragement, but discover your way, trust how you see it, hear it, feel it. Use the knowledge as a springboard as you leap. You are the beautifully wrapped box, and the instructions and keys are all inside!
